Cheapest The Sparrow

I could not put this book down even though at many points I wanted to. It is a book about religious faith, and alien contact, but it is also a story of horror and redemption. I cannot say more than that except that the author sets this up as a mystery, so even if you do not want to finish the book you must. The climax of the book is both deeply disturbing and completely redemptive. If you like religion, and you like science fiction, this is a rare must-read.

One thing I do not agree with other reviewers is that the aliens did not seem "alien" but seemed to be more like native American people, as with the film AVATAR. I cannot understand such comments. These were beings that treated other beings as we humans treat animals, to the point of enslaving and eating them. They were not "human"like aliens in a full sense of the word, and if you read the plot with respect to language, commerce, and art (poetry and music) as the author develops it in this novel, it is clear that this is a race that is so unlike ours - and yet similar - in an anthropological sense. The author nails it: any aliens that we humans might ever encounter will certainly not be human at all, even though that is what we want and expect the most. I would like to read the sequel, but I don't know if it will surpass this experience, and I don't want to ruin it!Get more detail about The Sparrow.
