Bringing Up Boys Right now

I am a conservative Christian with an 8 month old son, so when my husband bought this book, I snatched it up and read it before he got the chance... I am a stay-at-home mom, so I have naptimes free. I was excited about reading a psychologist's take on rearing boys in today's world through a Christian perspective, but I found this book to be more of one Christian layman's perspective.

Oddly enough, one of the most open-minded chapters was the Homosexuality chapter. I expected that one to be a purely opinion-based subject. Some may argue that it still is, but that would be because they are defensive on the subject to begin with.

I found this book to be more of a rant against the Feminist Movement and how it has infiltrated our country from Hollywood to the National Education Association more than a psychologist's study of raising boys. I found Dr. Dobson went off on tangents (from how girls should not call boys--maybe more appropriate in Bringing up Girls--to not feeding your kid too much junk). He also seemed to haphazardly stick in new tidbits of information for an "updated" edition for this decade. Most of the "updates" were, "And this study was done ten to twenty years ago. Imagine what it's like now!!"

I said above that I'm a conservative Christian. It's not that I disagreed with much of what he said (minus his sweeping assumptions about public education based on a few anecdotes), but I was disappointed to find that this book was more of an opinion piece on the state of the world for boys rather than an aide for those who are "bringing up boys."Get more detail about Bringing Up Boys.
